![]() ![]() Don’t think you’re the only one :) People mentioned a “false summit”. It’s steeper and harder, but you will get there. If you’ve gotten to this point, don’t bail out unless you really need to. There is a bailout point which is a little over the half-way point. Take this slow and easy and stop when you need to. There were parts of the climb that got pretty steep and I had to use my hands to help me to the next railroad tie/step. On a scale from 1-10 in difficulty, this was an 8-10 for us. We are a couple in our mid 50s and this was not an easy climb. These were some of the worst ones I’ve used! We had a backpack with gatorade, water, snacks, and sunscreen. There are 4 portable toilets available and I would bring toilet paper and baby wipes in with you. This climb would definitely take more patience to maneuver during the crowded summer months. The Incline is open from dawn to dusk and got crowded during our climb. We arrived at 7:45am on a Sunday morning. Should we try "The Incline"? How's the weather this weekend? Weather looks good! Well, let's give it a try! Parking was $5 for 3 hours. It takes you down ~3 miles through the forrest, and the views are gorgeous! I enjoyed these views even more than from the peak of the incline. We both loved the trail, and its a piece of cake after the incline. Once at the top, the views are well worth the hike! We were also running a bit behind schedule, so we jogged/ran the way back down the Barr trail which intersects with the incline. There are also many spots along the way you can step off the incline for a break. However, despite the crowds, it is easy to pass people or let others pass you. There were people who were going much faster than us and others that went much slower. I had to take several short breaks to catch my breath, especially after the steeper parts. My husband and I are both active and physically fit, and it took us an hour to go up. If you are not accustomed to the thin air and did not allow enough time to acclimate (me!), then this will make the ascent even more difficult. The average incline is 41% and 68% at the steepest. The incline takes you up about 2,744 steps and over 2,000 ft in just under a mile.
